How to use Hermeneut

Hermeneut helps you go deeper into your church's sermon series. Ask questions, study at your own pace, and engage with the Word anytime.

Chatting with a sermon series

What can I ask?

Anything related to the sermon series — questions about a passage, the themes a pastor covered, how a teaching applies to your life, or deeper theological questions raised in the sermons.

The AI answers from the actual sermon content, so the responses reflect what your pastor taught — not just generic theology.

How do I start a chat?

From the home page, click on any sermon series, then click Chat. Type your question in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send.

What do the source highlights mean?

When the AI responds, it highlights the exact sermon transcript sections it drew from. You can see the sources listed below the response and click to jump to that part of the transcript.

Why does the AI sometimes say it doesn't know?

The AI only answers from what has been taught in that series. If a topic hasn't been covered in the sermons, it will say so rather than speculate. This keeps the answers trustworthy and grounded in your church's teaching.

Study plans

What is a study plan?

A study plan lets you follow a sermon series sermon by sermon. You can mark each sermon as listened to, track your overall progress, and pick up where you left off.

Do I need an account?

Yes — study plans require signing in with your Google account so your progress is saved across devices. Chatting with a series does not require an account.

Where do I find my study plans?

After signing in, click My Plans in the header. You'll see all the series you've enrolled in and your progress for each.

Changing language

Can I get responses in my language?

Yes. In the chat screen, click the language icon in the top right and choose your preferred language. The AI will respond in that language for the rest of your session.

Available languages include English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Afrikaans, Zulu, Swahili, and Arabic.

Is my language preference saved?

Yes, your language choice is remembered on the device you're using.

Saving conversations

Can I save a chat session?

Yes, if you're signed in. Click the bookmark icon in the chat header to save the current conversation. You can find all saved conversations under My Plans → Conversations.

Can I share a series with someone?

Click the share icon in the chat header to copy a direct link to the series. Anyone with the link can browse it and start chatting.

Tips for better results

  • Ask specific questions — "What did the pastor say about forgiveness in the Romans series?" works better than "Tell me about forgiveness."
  • Follow-up questions work well — the AI remembers the context of your current session.
  • If a response seems off, try rephrasing. You can also use Shift+Enter to add line breaks and write a longer question.
  • Check the highlighted sources at the bottom of a response to verify where the answer came from.
